Aayushi Rana July 8, 2024
False claim of BSF jawan being assassinated in Kashmir shared by Pak accounts

A Twitter account named Pakistan First shared a claim stating, “BSF soldier Amit Kumar Shukla (30) was assassinated in Chenani-Nashri tunnel in Udhampur district by unknown men. He was on his way to Jharkhand on leave when a magnetic bomb toppled his vehicle killing him”. Our team previously identified this account as a frequent fake news peddler.

Fact Check

The DFRAC team investigated the viral claim. During the process, we find the claim is false. According to media reports, a tragic accident occurred in the Chenani Nashri Tunnel when a speeding passenger taxi flipped, resulting in the death of BSF Jawan Amit Kumar Shukla (30).

Daily Excelsior report dated 7 July 2024 mentioned “According to the police report, the Xylo car, bearing registration number JK01P-7905 was on its way from Srinagar towards Udhampur when it turned turtle due to overspeeding, resulting into serious head injury to one passenger.
The victim was shifted to CHC Chenani, but he succumbed to his injuries on the way to the hospital.”

Another report by the Times of India also mentioned the same news.

Conclusion

Thus, it is clear from the Fact Check that the claim by Pak users is false. The BSF Jawan lost his life in a tragic car accident not assassinated. The bomb blast was not reported as the reason for the accident. DFRAC Analysis: Misleading
