Is Former Governor of Arunachal Pradesh reported to be among richest in India?

The image of Former Governor of Arunachal Pradesh and Chief of Army Staff of India, General J.J. Singh is making rounds on social media site X (Twitter).The image has been shared by several users with the claim that he is reported to be among the richest in India & his Estimated net worth of over $2.5 billion USD.

An account with the username @Defense785, Journalist as per X’s bio, posted the images of numerous generals and wrote: Several generals are reported to be among the richest in #India based on available information.

In the first thread, the account posted the image of General J.J and claimed: “General J.J. Singh (Retired): Estimated net worth of over $2.5 billion USD. General Singh served as the Chief of Army Staff from 2006 to 2010. After retirement, he has earned money through consulting roles, work with defense companies, sponsorships and endorsements”

Not only this, but the names of other generals were also mentioned along with their respective images in the rest of the threads with the estimated net worth.

Another account also shared the image of General J.J. Singh on X and made similar claim.

Fact-Check

To verify the above shared claim, the DFRAC team conducted a keyword search on google in this regard. In our probe, no such reports or updates have been found citing the above claim. Upon investigating further we found that names of General J.J Singh and other generals have not been included in the list of India’s richest 100 people by Forbes.

Names of prominent personalities such as Mukesh Ambani, Gautam Adani, Shiv Nadar and Savitri Jindal can be seen in this list. However, the name of General J.J. Singh and other generals have not been appeared throughout the list.

Conclusion

It is clear from DFRAC’s fact-check  that the above shared claim stating General J.J. Singh as well as other generals are reported to be among the richest in India is completely fake as no such sources are available online in this regard.
