A video showing a Police officer severely thrashed by an individual is making rounds on social media site X(Twitter). The video has also been shared by the Pak- Based Handle on X(Twitter)  

The INDOCOM Bureau, an account on X(Twitter) operating from Pakistan shared this video on X and wrote: “A Hindu man beats a Muslim police officer in a restaurant after the officer asked him to remove his car from the road as the road was getting blocked”

To investigate the reality of the above viral video, the DFRAC team converted it into some keyframes and reverse-searched it on Google. The team discovered some media reports during this process.

Media reports from The Quint, Financial Express and India Today

News website India Today published a media report on October 20, 2018. In this report, India Today stated: “A shocking video has emerged from Meerut in Uttar Pradesh where a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) councillor thrashed a police officer in uniform. The incident took place on Friday evening in the Kankarkheda area of Meerut district. In the video, BJP leader, Manish Kumar, is seen slapping a sub-inspector multiple times and hurling abuses at him. The police officer had come to the BJP leader’s restaurant with a woman lawyer. The woman was reportedly involved in an altercation with a waiter for not serving her meal on time.

Moreover, media reports from The Quint and Financial Express also cited similar facts in the context of the above viral video.

Conclusion

It is clear from DFRAC’s fact-check that the above viral video claiming a Hindu man beats a Muslim Police Officer is misleading since no communal angle has been found. The viral video shows an incident from Meerut that happened in 2018.
