Fact-Check: Macron’s Words Unleashed: Revealing the truth behind the False Attribution!

An X user recently shared an image showing a quote directed at UK Government’s treatment of Scotland over Brexit claiming it to be of France’s president Macron. The account Isla MacGregor, on X(Twitter) shared an image and wrote: “Do you agree with Macron?”

The image can be seen here.

Fact-Check

To determine the authenticity of the shared quote, the DFRAC team investigated it on Google and various social media platforms. However, we couldn’t find any evidence of Macron stating this on any site.

Meanwhile, we found a report by Scottish Daily Express, which informed that a similar image was shared by SNP Orkney branch  through a Facebook post on 31st January, 2022 but it was later taken down by them, as they were forced to apologise over their discriminatory “anti-English” post. The organization also falsely used the picture of the French president, Macron.

The image can be seen here.

The post received highly criticizing remarks from critics and was later taken down by the organization.

Hence, it is evident that the shared image cannot be attributed to Macron and is false.

Conclusion

Therefore, it is confirmed by DFRAC that the viral image, purportedly attributed to Macron, is misleading.
