In a widely circulated video on social media, a man is observed giving a sermon when the platform on which the speaker and others were on, unexpectedly collapses. Sharing the video users are claiming that the stage collapsed because the speaker in the video spoke critically about Jews in Pakistan.
Claim with the video:
Users sharing the video are claiming that a preacher from Pakistan said that the Prophet Muhammad appeared to him and ordered him to ki!! all Jews. “And if I lie, may this stage collapse beneath me,” the speaker continued. The stage collapses immediately.”
Fact Check
A reverse image search of keyframes from the video led us to the Facebook page of Voice of America, which was uploaded in 2018. The caption of the video read, “A stage collapsed during an election rally held by religious political party Jamaat-e-Islami in Pakistan’s Mohmand tribal district, near the Afghan border. Party president Sirajul Haq and other leaders were on the stage but unharmed in the incident.”
Further searches using keywords directed us to a video posted on the “Public News” YouTube channel in the same year – 2018. The video was labeled as “Stage collapses during Jamaat-e-Islami election campaign.”
Furthermore, We also verified it from our DFRAC’s Urdu Team, who confirmed that there was no mention of Jews in the speech. It was an introductory speech for the gathering.
Conclusion
This fact check proves that there was no anti-Semitic speech in the viral video. It is a five-year-old video of a stage collapsing in Pakistan shared with a misleading claim.
