Fact Check
We investigated the video and the viral claim by reverse-searching the keyframes from the viral video. In our probe, we found the video posted by an X(formerly Twitter) user in 2022. The images in the video aligned with those in the widely circulated clip.
The user mentioned , “#RohitSharma Daughter #samaira Today at #Leicester
How cute she is. MY FATHER IS TAKING REST IN THE ROOM GOT #covidpositive “
Rohit Sharma contracted Covid-19 before a scheduled test match between India and England, in 2022. During that period, reporters in the UK reportedly questioned Samaira Sharma about her father’s health as she exited a hotel room in Leicester.
Furthermore, we checked for the media reports of the same time frame – June 2022. We found media reports from multiple media houses that reported that Rohit Sharma tested positive for COVID-19 in England ahead of the test match between India and England in 2022.
Additionally, we also found a tweet from BCCI of the same time period, June 2022, where they updated on Rohit Sharma being COVID-19 positive.
Conclusion
The fact check confirms that the video of Rohit Sharma’s daughter is an old one dated back to June 2022, falsely circulated as a recent occurrence.
