A video is going viral on social media platforms showing heaps of cash recovered by the ED (Enforcement Directorate) at a sweet shop. Users on social media are fiercely sharing this video and claiming that the ED has raided a sweet shop in Jodhpur, Rajasthan.

Fact-Check

To verify the authenticity of the above viral video, the DFRAC team converted it into some keyframes and reverse-searched it on Google. Meanwhile, we found some pieces of evidence revealing the facts behind the above viral video.

Video found on CNN news 18 YouTube channel

The team found this video in the CNNnews18 ‘s official account on YouTube with the title: “ED Conducts Mega Raid In Kolkata Recovers ₹18 Crore Cash”. Moreover, the video was uploaded in the form of shorts, a year ago.

Some news articles related to the viral video

Upon further investigation, we discovered some news articles from News 18 and India Today which were published a year ago.

 According to a news article published by ‘News 18’ on September 11, 2022, The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Saturday recovered over Rs 17 crore during the raids at six premises linked to a Kolkata-based businessman. A total of eight machines have been brought to count the cash. It carried out search operations under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) on September 10 in connection with an ongoing probe related to the mobile gaming application.

Furthermore, the News website ‘India Today’ also published a news article on September 10, 2022. The headline of the news article reads Rs 17.32 crore seized by ED in massive cash haul from Kolkata businessman in gaming app scam.

In this article, India Today reveals: “The Enforcement Directorate (ED) is conducting searches at six locations in Kolkata while probing an alleged case of fraud through a mobile gaming app.

A team of ED officials, accompanied by bank officials, raided the premises of businessman Aamir Khan in the Garden Reach area of Kolkata on Saturday. Till now, Rs 17.32 crore has been seized and counting is still underway.

Conclusion

It is clear from DFRAC’s Fact-Check that the viral video showing ED recovering Heaps of cash from a sweet shop at Jodhpur is misleading since the video is associated with a one-year-old case of a Kolkata businessman whose premises were raided by ED over a gaming app to fraud the public a year ago.
