Some pictures are getting viral on social media, showing people offering Prayers at Yamuna River where water is frothing due to industrial waste in the river. The viral pictures have drawn massive criticism on the Internet. Users on social media are responding negatively to these pictures.
A user by the name of Zhao DaShuai posted a picture on July 21, 2023, on Twitter and wrote: “People offering prayers at the Yamuna River in India. The water is frothing from industrial waste, caused by dumping toxic chemicals into the water”.
Not only this, but he also posted another picture on July 21, 2023, on Twitter and wrote: ” It is a recent picture India’s environmental disaster never gets much media coverage, because Western MSM are obligated to shower them with praise to counter China. Alternative media also need the Indian view counts and likes on youtube and Twitter”.
In addition to that, another user named Roberto A. Arrucha posted one of the similar pictures on July 22, 2023, and wrote: ” A postal card for the future: Humans in the XXI. People offering prayers at the Yamuna River in India. The water is frothing from industrial waste, caused by dumping toxic chemicals into the water”.
Fact-Check
To verify the authenticity of claims regarding viral pictures, the Dfrac team reverse-searched them on Google. Meanwhile, the team found these pictures on the renowned Newspaper Website Indian Express uploaded on November 8, 2016, with the title: “Yamuna River: Sea of froth welcomes devotees on Chhath Puja”.
Furthermore, Website Scoopwhoop also posted the same pictures on November 8, 2016, with the title: “These Images Of A Foam-Filled Yamuna Show That It’s Not Just The Air In Delhi That’s Poisonous”.
Conclusion
The Dfrac’s Fact-Check proves that the claims of social media users regarding these viral pictures are misleading since viral pictures were posted 7 years ago, not recently.
