Immigrant Muslims responsible for recent violent protests in France? Read the Fact-Check

France has been engulfed by violent protests after the fatal killing of a 17-year-old Algerian-based teenager by the French Police for not having a driver’s license. On social media, users are claiming that people from the Muslim community have continued to play a major role in these violent protests.

A user by the name of Political Khiladi shared some pictures on Twitter and wrote:” If you understand then tell me who is responsible for #FranceRiots ?? although #France is a developed country with a great judiciary system, but no 1 believe on Dat, police shoot 1 boy n Dey #Muslims killed democracy Well, Well, Well. How the tables turn”.

A user named Harris Sultan tweeted with more than a thousand words on Twitter. He asserted: ”Whether ,it is a whiskey-sipping ‘moderate’ Muslim in London or a hardcore Salafi in Toronto, they are all unified in their animosity towards the West and they rejoice whenever incidents like the ones in France or Sweden or Belgium occur” in a part of his tweet. 

The recent riots in #France have highlighted that even 'moderate' Muslims, who advocate for 'secularism' in the West but support Islamism in their ancestral countries, do not have any love for the West or their adopted countries.

Another user named Amy Mek posted a video on Twitter and wrote: “Imam brags: “France WILL become an Islamic country through Jihad; The entire world WILL be subject to Islamic Rule” The French will: “Convert to Islam, be Forced to pay Jizya poll tax, or be fought against for the sake of Allah” In 2017, France silenced my warnings by banning my Twitter account, dismissing the major concerns I raised about the perils of their open border policies. Now, as I had forewarned, those concerns have materialized, and the country is facing the consequences of being conquered. (They tell you their plans, when will you start to believe them?)”.

Several social media users are also sharing similar claims with the same context, believing that only the Muslim community is responsible for the recent violent protests in France.

Fact-Check

To know the reality behind these claims, the team of Dfrac has searched some keywords related to these claims on Google. We found numerous media reports in this context. 

A news website dayfr published a news article with the headline: “ Live – Riots in France: “less than 10% of the 4,000 arrested were foreigners”, according to Gérald Darmanin”.

Another French Website yenisafak also published news, quoting French Minister of the Interior Gérald Darmanin who claimed: “ Less than 10% of those arrested are foreigners” in the National Assembly.

According to  yenisafak‘s reports, French Minister of the Interior Gérald Darmanin said: “90% were French” and that “only 40 people ” among those arrested, “were eligible for an administrative detention center”. 

He added: “Many of us here come from the neighborhoods, come from immigration, and love our country and we don’t want hatred of foreigners, nor hatred of the police,”.

Journalist Rishi Suri tweeted: “The French govt has clarified claims about migrants and Muslims being ‘responsible’ for the recent riots in #France. The French Interior Minister said –  “4000 people were arrested, 90% of them were French – only 10% were foreigners. Out of these 4000, only 40 people were illegal immigrants.”

Conclusion:

It is clear from Dfrac’s Fact-Check that the claim that Muslim community is responsible for recent violent protests in France is completely misleading since French Minister of Interior Gérald Darmanin claimed that 90 % of French people were a significant part of recent violent protests in France.
