Photoshopped Image of Sonia Gandhi got Viral, Read the Fact Check

A picture of Senior Congress Leader and Chairperson of United Progressive Alliance (UPA), Sonia Gandhi, is getting viral on whatsapp and other social media platforms. A book titled ‘How to convert India into Christian Nation’ is seen in the background of that picture.

The picture got viral in the year 2021 as well. Several users shared this picture with the above claim on Facebook and Twitter.

Fact Check:

The team of DFRAC conducted a reverse image search to know the truth behind this viral picture. We found some media reports during this reverse image search. According to those media reports, a particular picture of Sonia Gandhi was also used earlier.

Website livemint published a news, titled “Sonia Gandhi chaired a meeting to combat Covid-19 in Congress ruling States”. In this news, a book named ‘How to convert India to Christian Nation’ is not appearing in Sonia Gandhi’s picture.

We found a video in a tweet which had been posted by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on 27 October 2020 during this process. The video’s duration was 4: 48 minutes. Sharing Senior Congress leader Sonia Gandhi’s Message regarding Bihar’s citizens with you. It’s time for New Bihar to win this ‘Mahagatbandhan’, caption was also given by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.

It can be seen in this video that Book titled ‘How to Convert India into Christian Nation’ is not visible in Sonia Gandhi’s background.

Conclusion:

It is clear from DFRAC’s Fact-check that this viral picture of Sonia Gandhi is ‘Edited and Fake’. According to media reports, book named ‘How to Convert India into Christian Nation’ is not visible in Sonia Gandhi’s viral picture.

Hence, the claim of social media users is misleading.
