The moon for Bakrid (Eid-ul-Adha) has been sighted and the festival will be celebrated on 29th June. On social media platforms like WhatsApp, Facebook, etc., an advertisement of the newspaper Dainik Jagran is going viral. The advertisement reads “Ek Muhalla Ek Bakra” in big bold letters. It goes on to say, “This Bakrid, if possible, sacrifice only one goat for the entire neighborhood. This will increase a sense of belongingness. Bloodshed will decrease. Water pollution will decrease. Dirtiness will decrease. Dainik Jagran’s initiative.”
A user named Sumit Blogger shared the image of this advertisement with the hashtag “#एक_मुहल्ला_एक_बकरा“

Fact-check:

Then we examined both the “Ek Muhalla Ek Holika” and “Ek Muhalla Ek Bakra” advertisements. We found that there are many similarities in both the advertisements. On the left side of the advertisement, there is a picture of a girl and the headline reads “Holi”. On the right side, it reads “Teams” in the final news headline. You can see both the advertisements in the collage below.
Furthermore, the “Ek Muhalla Ek Bakra” advertisement is filled with many grammatical errors in Hindi language, which are not common in a newspaper. Also, the alignment of sentences is not correct in this advertisement. In our further investigation, DFRAC team found that this advertisement was printed in Dainik Jagran’s Muradabad edition on 4th March 2023. In the advertisement, it was mentioned that we need to take care of traffic, electricity wires, high-tension, and the environment
It is worth noting that a fake advertisement of “Ek Muhalla Ek Bakra” has already gone viral under the name of Dainik Jagran. Such a fake advertisement is not published by Dainik Jagran.
Conclusion:
DFRAC’s fact-check makes it clear that Dainik Jagran did not publish the advertisement “Ek Muhalla Ek Bakra”. Therefore, the claim of social media users is false.
