Recently, Ram Navami was celebrated with great pomp across the country. Violence was also seen in some states during this period. Meanwhile, a claim was made on social media that Ram Navami is not a public holiday in India.

A verified Twitter account called True Indology tweeted about the fact that in India, there is no public holiday for Ram Navami and Hanuman Jayanti. But there is a public holiday for Good Friday and Ambedkar Jayanti. Why? Good Friday is not a federal holiday even in a Christian majority country like the US. Why is it a public holiday in India when most Indians don’t even celebrate it?
This tweet is being shared widely. Several other verified users have raised questions considering this claim to be true. This tweet has got thousands of retweets and likes so far.
Fact Check:
To verify the viral claim, the DFRAC team performed a few keyword searches on Google. In the mean time we came across an office memorandum by the Government of India regarding public holidays in 2023. In which a list of holidays to be celebrated in central government offices in 2023 was given. The name of Ram Navami is also included in this list.
Apart from this, we also found a report of Republic News. In which it was told that Ram Navami is a national holiday in India. Also gave a list of those states. Where government offices and banks will remain closed due to Ram Navami.
Conclusion:
Therefore, it is clear from DFRAC’s fact check that True Indology‘s claim that Ram Navami is not a public holiday in India is fake.
