fake sir

The word ‘sir’ is used by us every day to give respect to a person. But on social media, the word ‘Sir’ is described as a symbol of the slavery of the British.

A Facebook user named Arun Kumar Gupta shared a poster. In which he explained the meaning of the word ‘sir’ and wrote that you all call it ‘sir’. But do you know what the word sir means?.? The sentence whose word is abbreviation is the full sentence “Slave I Remain”

(SIR) which means (I will be a slave), that is, if we call sir, we briefly say to that person that “I will be your slave”. I accept my slavery. During their rule, the British wanted all Indians to address him as ‘Sir’. Even after 75 years of independence, we keep calling everyone sir. We think that saying the word “sir” gives respect to the other person and demonstrates our being educated. Whereas this is our biggest illusion, which we do not know and our ego does not even allow us to accept it. Frankly, I didn’t even know the meaning of the word “sir.” The U.S. President is also referred to as “Mr. President” and not sir.

How wisely the British ruled our country. They include misconstrued words such as “sir”, “uncle”, “aunty”, “hello” etc. in our daily vocabulary and gradually weaken us mentally. How stupid we are, we are still walking their way blindly. Spread this message fast and stop calling anyone sir, it is a symbol of slavery.

Fact Check:

Source: Cambridge dictionary

The DFRAC team first looked at the Cambridge Dictionary to investigate the claim that is going viral. Where the word “sir” is described as a noun. Which is used as a formal and polite way to talk to a person.

Source: oxfordlearnersdictionaries

The Oxford dictionaries used the word “sir” to mean “sir” as “the word sir is used as a polite way of addressing someone whose name you do not know. “

Source:  Britannica

In addition, we explained the four meanings of “sir” in the Britannica dictionary.

  1. Used without naming politely for a person you don’t know.
  1. Used politely without naming a person holding rank or authority.
  1. Used without taking the name as the address at the beginning of a formal letter.
  1.  Used as a title before the name of a Knight or Baronet.

Conclusion:

Therefore, a fact check of DFRAC makes it clear that the viral claim is fake. Because the word “sir” is not a symbol of British slavery but a word used to honor and honor someone. It doesn’t mean “I’ll be your slave.”
