Fact Check en Misleading-en

On the day of Holi, Tarun was killed in a violent altercation in Uttam Nagar, Delhi. Amid this, a video is being circulated on social media in which Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath can be seen walking with a convoy. Through this viral video, users claim that the Chief Minister is going to Uttam Nagar, Delhi, to demand justice for Tarun.

“A Facebook user, while sharing this viral video, claimed that ‘तरुण की मौत के बाद योगी आदित्यनाथ दिल्ली पहुंचे।’ (After Tarun’s death, Yogi Adityanath reached Delhi).”

The claim can be seen through the following link.

Fact Check

Upon investigation, the DFRAC team found that the viral video shows a procession celebrating the festival of Holi in Gorakhpur. However, it is being falsely claimed that the video shows CM Yogi Adityanath reaching Uttam Nagar in Delhi. To investigate the claim, our team conducted a Google search using relevant keywords to verify whether CM Yogi Adityanath had visited Uttam Nagar, Delhi. During the investigation, we did not find any media reports stating that CM Yogi Adityanath had visited Delhi. We also checked his official social media accounts (Facebook and X), but found no information regarding any visit to Uttam Nagar

To further investigate the matter, our team conducted a reverse image search using keyframes from the viral video. The search led us to an Instagram post by localnewsgorakhpur. The information shared in the post stated:

“Gorakhpur/ Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath participated in the grand procession organized by the Shri Shri Holika Dahan Utsav Samiti Pandeyhata and played Holi with flowers and gulal. During the procession, devotees were showered with flowers, and the entire area was filled with color, devotion, and enthusiasm. A large number of people attended the event, and Holi was celebrated with great enthusiasm, accompanied by traditional drums.”

During the investigation, we also found the same video on the X handle of the news agency IANS, with the information:

“In Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath participated in the Bhakta Prahlad procession and aarti at Pandeyhata, played Holi with flowers, and extended Holi greetings to Gorakhpur residents. MP Ravi Kishan, MLAs Vipin Singh and Charu Chaudhary were also present on stage.”

The same video of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath attending the Bhakt Prahlad procession organized in Pandey Hata, Gorakhpur, was also posted on his official X handle.

For further clarification, our team contacted Rajesh, a reporter from localnewsgorakhpur.  He confirmed that the viral video is from Gorakhpur, where Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath attended the Holi procession organized in Pandey Hata.

Conclusion:

The fact-check conducted by DFRAC confirmed that the viral video is not of Yogi Adityanath visiting Delhi’s Uttam Nagar. The video is from a Holi celebration in Gorakhpur. Therefore, the users’ claim is misleading.
