Indian Army launched an anti terror operation named ‘Operation Mahadev’, along with the CRPF and Jammu and Kashmir Police in the Lidwas-Dachigam forest area near Srinagar. The main action of the operation took place on 28 July 2025. A claim went viral on the internet in the context of Operation Mahadev, shortly after its launch. An account named ‘TacticalTribun’ on X posted the claim. They claimed “Kashmiri fighters claim to have killed 3 Indian soldiers in Srinagar. They’ve released the pics of the soldiers.”
Fact Check
Here at DFRAC, we investigated the viral claim and found it to be FAKE. When we searched the keywords of the viral claim online, we did not find an official media report. No official statement by the Indian Army was also found to establish the legitimacy of the viral statement. But we found an article of NDTV uploaded on 28 July 2025. The title is “3 Terrorists Reportedly Killed In Army Op Mahadev on Srinagar Outskirts.”
The Chinar Corps of the Indian Army announced the same. On their official X account, they announced “OP MAHADEV – Update Three terrorists have been eliminated in fierce gunbattle Operation Continues”. The statement was posted on 28 July 2025.
Conclusion
Therefore, with the formal declaration of Chinar Corps of the Indian army we conclude that the viral claim by certain Pakistan based propaganda accounts is Fake. The Indian Army has killed three terrorists but no reports of any Indian Army personnel’s death.
