When it seemed that the tensions between India and Pakistan were decreasing after the Pahalgam Attack, some Pakistan based accounts shared a claim. An account on X, with the username ‘TacticalTribun’ shared the viral claim. The claim is “Pakistan arrested 6 Indian agents who were planning to attack Pakistan Air Bases in Bahawalpur”.

Some other users on Facebook also shared a similar claim which you can see here and here.

Fact Check

An entire investigation was made by DFRAC to confirm the allegation. The first thing that we did was verifying the possibility of any official media coverage of India that corroborates the statement. From the major news outlets and press releases by the government, we searched every article and official statements, which failed to substantiate the argument.

We then checked the official Twitter and Facebook pages of the Indian government to find whether there is any content or statement that can support the viral claim. We had gone through the latest tweets and official posts by the spokesperson of the MEA but could not find the same information. The social media accounts seemed to have no comment or say nothing concerning the viral claim.

We also examined the official web sites of the main government agencies dealing with international relations including the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and the Press information bureau (PIB). We did not find records, official statements or news releases on them to support the concerned claim.

Conclusion

This critical analysis shows clearly that the claim is FAKE. This review ascertains that indeed the viral statement by the Pakistani accounts is fake. As it lacks verified facts and official communication channels. Its dubious nature is highlighted by the absence of endorsement or coverage in the major media and by the government of India.
