Fact-Check

The DFRAC team investigated the claim made through the viral image. We found this claim to be misleading.

We conducted a keyword search on Google in this regard that led us to some reports published by The Economic Times, Moneycontrol & Indianfoodtimes.

A collage of news headlines from multiple media sources discussing the Indian Army's induction of Kamikaze drones in Jammu and Kashmir for counter-terrorism efforts. The headlines include reports from Rising Kashmir, Republic, and other media outlets, highlighting the strategic upgrade in India's defense capabilities. One headline mentions the unveiling of Kamikaze drones at the IIT Jammu Expo, emphasizing their advanced surveillance features, including night vision and zoom capabilities. The collage is branded with logos from various news platforms, including DFRAC and Bharat TV.

According to these reports, India has rebutted reports from Pakistan which claim that New Zealand and Australia have officially recognised basmati rice as a Pakistani product. Officials said that India already holds a logo mark registration in New Zealand for basmati rice while Pakistan has no such registration.

Furthermore, the reports mentioned that the Agricultural and Processed Food Exports Development Authority (APEDA), a body under the Government of India, was actively engaged in the protection and prosecution of its Basmati name and logo certification trademark applications in these jurisdictions. In fact, APEDA already holds a logo mark registration in New Zealand for Basmati while Pakistan has no such registration.

Conclusion

It is clear from DFRAC‘s fact-check that the viral claim alleging Basmati Rice has declared Pakistani Products instead of Indian is completely misleading since India has refuted these reports citing false claims and has asserted that India already holds a logo mark registration in New Zealand for basmati rice.
