The Maha Kumbh Mela is set to begin on January 13, 2025, in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, and will continue until February 2025. Meanwhile, a video is going viral on social media, showing drone activity. While sharing the video, users claim it is an “amazing supernatural Prayagraj Maha Kumbh.”
Fact Check
During the investigation, DFRAC found the claim to be false. We found a similar video on the Instagram account of ‘skyelementsdrones,’ uploaded on December 6, 2024, with the caption “5,000 DRONE SANTA.”
Furthermore, we found multiple media reports about the video. According to a ‘Times of India’ report published on December 7, 2024, “Sky Elements set a new record in the United States for the largest drone show, flying 5,000 drones over Mansfield, Texas, before Christmas. This marks their 11th Guinness World Record, surpassing their own record of 2,500 drones set just a week earlier.”
Moreover, we also found a report from ‘Hindustan Times,’ published on December 9, 2024, stating: “A US-based drone company set a world record by flying 5,000 drones in Texas, creating a stunning Christmas show with Santa, which went viral online. In a stunning display of technological innovation and festive cheer, a US-based drone company, Sky Elements, wowed social media users with one of the largest drone light shows ever staged.”
Conclusion
It is evident from DFRAC’s fact check that the viral video was from Texas, before Christmas, not from the ongoing Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj. Therefore, the claim made by social media users is misleading.
