Chaos erupted outside the Parliament as BJP and opposition MPs staged parallel protests, leading to a controversy. BJP MP Pratap Chandra Sarangi alleged that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi pushed an MP, causing injury. In this backdrop, a video has gone viral about Leader of Opposition, Rahul Gandhi where he can be heard saying, “see…see…see…yes done it …done it…but…okay…nothing happens from minor jostling” (Translated from Hindi to English).
While sharing the video, users are claiming, “Rahul Gandhi himself is saying that I did it… I even pushed you, you got hurt because of me but a man doesn’t die by pushing”.
Following this, multiple BJP members have also shared similar including Shehzad Jai Hind and Anurag Thakur.
Fact Check
DFRAC Team investigated the viral claim and found the claim to be misleading. During the process, we found the complete video of Rahul Gandhi speaking to Media persons outside Parliament on the official X account of PTI (Press Trust of India). On close inspection of the complete video, it can be heard that one of the reporters asked, “Was Kharge ji also pushed? (Kharge ji sath bhi dhakka mukki hui hai)” to this Rahul Gandhi can be heard saying, “Yes…Yes… this has happened (Mallikarjun Kharge being pushed). But we do not get affected by jostling.”
Furthermore, we also found a media report from ANI where we found the complete statement of Rahul Gandhi. It stated, “This might be on your camera. I was trying to go inside through the Parliament entrance, BJP MPs were trying to stop me, push me and threaten me. So this happened… Yes, this has happened (Mallikarjun Kharge being pushed). But we do not get affected by jostling. But this is the entrance and we have the right to go in. BJP MPs were trying to stop us from going in. The central issue is that they are attacking the Constitution and insulting the memory of Ambedkar ji”
Conclusion
The fact check confirms that the viral statement attributed to Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi has been shared misleadingly. In the video, he is referring to Mallikarjun Kharge being pushed, not admitting to pushing the BJP MP himself. Hence, the viral claim is false.
