On social media, video of firecrackers has gone viral. While sharing the video users claim that “This is how Telugu audience responded to a bad film. Fans Burning JR NTR Cutout Outside Hyderabad Theatre after the Initial Poor Ratings & Bad Talk for the Movie #Devara !”.
Fact Check
During the investigation, DFRAC found that the claim was false. We found multiple media reports regarding this incident. According to ‘Times Now’ published on 27 Sep “A massive celebration at the Sudarshan 35 MM theatre in Hyderabad took an unexpected turn as the cutout of Jr NTR erected caught fire. The incident took place after Devara’s early show has been cancelled”.
Furthermore, we also found a report from ‘Hindustan Times’ stating “At the Sudarshan 35 MM theatre at RTC X Roads in Hyderabad, Jr NTR’s fans had put up a massive cutout of the actor and garlanded it”.
Moreover, we also looked at 1st day collection of Devara movie. We found a tweet from ‘Andhraboxoffice’ with the caption “#Devara Nizam: Outstanding Day 1 only Next to #RRR! 1st Day “Share” ₹19.32 Cr including Hires & Special Shows”.
Conclusion
It is evident from the DFRAC’s fact check that the fire occurred due to a firecracker mishap and had nothing to do with angry fans’ burning cutouts. Therefore, the claim of social media users is misleading.
