A video showing smoke emerging from a natural site has been shared by pak-based handles with the claim that militants have launched an attack on the Indian Army’s 36th Infantry Brigade camp in Sunjwan, Jammu, resulting in the deaths of 12 Indian soldiers.
An account with the username Kashmir English posted this video and wrote: “Kashmiri freedom fighters have launched a devastating attack on the Indian Army’s 36th Infantry Brigade camp in Sunjwan, Jammu, IIOJK. Reports indicate the operation resulted in the deaths of 12 Indian soldiers and significant destruction within the camp.”
Another account also shared this video and made a similar claim.
Fact-Check
To verify the authenticity of the above shared video, the DFRAC team converted it into some keyframes and reverse-searched it on google. We found a similar video clip featured in a report by Dainik Bhaskar published in Jan 2024. According to this report, the video was from a incident when militants attacked security forces in Moreh area of Manipur.
Moreover, latest reports from India Today & ANI stated that the Indian Army said that the incident in which a soldier lost his life at Sunjwan military station in Jammu and Kashmir on Monday, Sept 2,was not a terrorist attack. According to officials, the Army has initiated an investigation into the matter.
Conclusion
It is clear from DFRAC’s fact-check that the video from Jan 2024 incident has been misleadingly shared on X. In reality, it was a not a terrorist attack in Sunjwan military camp as said by Indian Army.
