The news of Hamas Chief Assassination has sparked a wave of misinformation on social media. Following this tragedy, a pak-based handle took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) and asserted that Indian Embassy In Tehran aided Israeli in Hamas Chief assassination.
Psywar Bureau better known for spreading misinformation on X, shared an image and wrote: “#BREAKINGNEWS Iranian Official Claims, Indian Embassy Tehran Aided Israelis in Ismail Haniyeh Assassination”
Moreover, several users shared this image and made similar claims, followed by this Pak handle. The links are here, here and here.
Fact-Check
To investigate the above shared claim, the DFRAC team deliberately examined some latest reports from multiple media outlets such as The Times of India, NDTV, WION and India.com. No such information has come to light in support of this claim.
Indeed, the reports stated: ” Hamas said Ismail Haniyeh was killed in a treacherous Zionist raid on his residence in Tehran”
Furthermore, the reports cited that an investigation is underway to find out more details about the attack. Haniyeh was in the Iranian capital to attend the swearing-in of Iran’s prez Masoud Pezeshkian.
Conclusion
It is clear from DFRAC’s fact-check that the claim made by the pak handle is completely fake since the latest reports have not asserted such information in their content and no involvement of Indian Embassy in Tehran was reported in the assassination. In fact, the Hamas Chief Haniyeh was killed in a treacherous Zionist raid as said by Hamas
