Taking to X(Twitter), a Chinese handle with the username @zhao_dashuai wrote: “4 years ago today, India invaded China’s Galwan valley. The PLA beat them back, killing several dozens of Indian soldiers, and capturing hundreds more. Today, the PLA patrols the valley. Modi proclaimed there are no Chinese troops on Indian soil, so we can agree the valley is ours”
Fact-Check
To investigate the claim made by the Chinese handle, the DFRAC team conducted a keyword search on Google. The team found some media reports during this process.
Media reports from NDTV and the India Today
As per media reports, more than 40 Chinese soldiers had also been killed and critically injured during a violent face-off in Galwan Valley in Ladakh over an infrastructure dispute.
A media report by NDTV dated February 3, 2022 stated that China lost 42 soldiers in the June 2020 Galwan Valley clash, at least nine times more than the four it has acknowledged, a report quoted by Australian newspaper “The Klaxon” has said”
Moreover, another media report by India Today from June 2020 mentioned that Chinese troops suffered 43 casualties during the face-off with the Indian Army at the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in the Galwan Valley region of Eastern Ladakh, news agency ANI has reported.
Furthermore, the report added: “The armies on two sides have been engaged in the standoff in Pangong Tso, Galwan Valley, Demchok, and Daulat Beg Oldie in eastern Ladakh since May 5. A sizeable number of Chinese Army personnel even transgressed into the Indian side of the de-facto border in several areas including Pangong Tso”.
Conclusion
It is evident from DFRAC’s fact-check that India had not invaded Galwan Valley. In fact, the clash was related to the dispute over Infrastructure construction in which soldiers of both sides had been killed and critically injured.
