Rahul Gandhi’s edited statement on Minorities falsely shared with misleading claim

A video of Congress Leader Rahul Gandhi is doing rounds on social media site X(Twitter). In this video, Rahul Gandhi can be heard saying: “We will do an X-ray of the country! The truth will come out. Minorities will know what their contribution to this country is. After this, we will do a financial and institutional survey. We will find out who holds the wealth of India. We will start revolutionary work followed by this historic step”.

Sharing this video on X(Twitter), Weekly magazine ‘Panchjanya’ wrote: “We will do an X-Ray of the country! Milk will be milk and water will be water. Minorities will know what their participation is in this country. After this, we will conduct financial and institutional surveys. They will find out in whose hands is the wealth of India. We will begin revolutionary work followed by this historic step: Rahul Gandhi.

Moreover, the video has been shared by many users with similar claims. The link can be seen by clicking here, here, and here.

Fact-Check

The DFRAC team investigated the viral video by converting it into some keyframes. We reverse-searched these keyframes on Google and found that an incomplete statement of Rahul Gandhi had been shared after editing it. Rahul mentions OBC, SC, ST, EWS, and minorities in his original statement. This statement by Rahul Gandhi is from the Congress manifesto launch rally in Hyderabad on 6 April. The video was live-streamed on Rahul Gandhi’s official YouTube channel on 6 April 2024. In this video, Rahul’s statement can be heard from 31:55 minutes to 33:10 minutes duration.

What does Rahul say?

In this statement, Rahul Gandhi says: “We will X-ray the country, milk will turn into milk and water into water. The backward classes, Dalits, tribals, poor general caste people, and minorities will know how much their participation is in this country. After this, we will conduct the financial and institutional survey. We will find out in whose hands the wealth of India is in the hands of which class. We will start revolutionary work followed by this historic step. We will work to give you whatever is your right.”

Conclusion

It is clear from DFRAC’s Fact-Check that Rahul Gandhi’s statement has been digitally edited. In his original statement, Rahul mentions OBC, SC, ST, EWS, and minorities. The part about OBC, SC, ST, and EWS has been removed and only the part about minorities has been kept.

Hence, the claim made by users is misleading.
