Fact-Check
To determine the reality of the viral video, the DFRAC team converted this video into some keyframes and reverse-searched it on Google. Meanwhile, we found this video on X account named @Meitei_Lazarus4 with the caption: “Kuki-Chin-Zo residences of Churachandpur caught in broad daylight looting & destroying every single Meitei property in Khumujamba meitei leikai in Ccpur, Manipur”.
Moreover, the video was posted in Nov 2023. Further, we also found media reports by The Quintand NDTV from 2023 stating how the entire colony was razed in Churachandpur, 65 km from the state capital Imphal, leaving several Meiteis shelterless.
A media report by NDTV published in the year 2023, stated: “Ronald Meisnam and Amarjit Maibam are among some 15,000 Meiteis whose houses in 11 villages in Churachandpur were destroyed in the unprecedented ethnic violence that began on May 3. “All Meitei houses at Khuga Tampak, about a thousand of them including ours, were set on fire, looted and destroyed by miscreants. Our village wears the look of a war-devastated zone,” Mr Maibam said.”
In addition to that, The Quint’s media report from 2023 mentioned: ” The Quint has accessed these FIRs which claim that out of the 19 Meitei villages in the district, at least seven – with nearly 500 houses – have been completely razed. These include Mandop Leikai, Ngathal, D Phailian, Thingkangphai, Thengra Leirak, Khumujamba, and Khuga Tampak.”
Conclusion
It is clear from DFRAC’s Fact-check that the viral video claiming Freedom Fighters in India blew up a very Important Military Base was originally associated with Manipur Violence when the colony was demolished in Churachandpur leaving thousands of Meitei with no roofs.
