A video is being shared on social media. In this video, Election Commissioner Naseem Zaidi can be heard challenging openly for hacking EVMs (Electronic Vending Machine). Users are sharing this video and claiming that now hack the EVM and show it otherwise there will be no justification for criticism later.
Engineer Rajesh Singh posted this video on X(Twitter) and wrote: “The Election Commission has given the “challenge” to “hack” the EVM”
Furthermore, we found that other social media users also shared this video and made similar claims.
Fact-Check
The DFRAC team investigated the viral video. The logo of the news channel Aaj Tak’ and Election Commissioner Naseem Zaidi were visible in the above viral video.
In addition, when the team converted the viral video into some keyframes and reverse-searched it on Google. We discovered the same video uploaded on Aaj Tak’s YouTube channel on May 20, 2017.
According to media reports, the tenure of the 20th Chief Election Commissioner Naseem Zaidi was from 19 April 2015 to July 2017.
Conclusion
It is clear from DFRAC’s Fact-Check that the Election Commission has not made any such announcement regarding EVM hacking at present. The viral video was uploaded 6 years ago. Therefore, the claims of social media users are misleading
