Did the Russian Army Launch a Rocket? Read the Fact Check here

A video is going viral on social media in which the rocket launch can be seen. The video is linked to the Russian Army.

A verified X user account named @igorsushko shared a video and wrote “Russian army in the year 2023”. The video got 1 million views and 11.2k likes.

Fact Check

To know the truth of the viral video, the DFRAC team converted the video into some keyframes and then reverse-searched it on Google. A similar video was discovered on a YouTube channel, and we also discovered news articles.

News Articles

We located one news article from military.com, which on April 21, 2015, posted a video with the caption, “Russian S300 Missile Fails to Launch!” on their website

Additionally, we discovered that the video had been posted on the On Alert website with the caption “Russia: See the failed S-300 launch!”

On Alert

A media report from ann.az was also found in which they said, “ Embarrassing footage has emerged of a missile launch going spectacularly wrong in Russia. The minute-long clip shows the S300 rocket barely managing to take off before plummeting back down to earth. A small thud can be heard and bits of debris fly off as the weapon makes a feeble attempt to launch at the military base in an unknown part of Russia.

Seconds later, the rocket goes out of view as whoever is filming takes cover and a huge explosion can be heard. The shaky camera returns to a massive plume of smoke.”

Video on Youtube

The same video was also posted to the YouTube channel @yansi3363 with the caption, “The failure of the rocket’s propulsion engine was the probable cause of the crash. It was uploaded on February 25, 2016.

Conclusion

It is clear from the DFRAC fact check that the claim is misleading as this is not a recent video. It is from the year 2015 in which Russia launched S-300.
