Analysis of the Propaganda Movement Started by Pakistan Social Media Against India

Dilshad Noor July 31, 2023
s

Pakistan has waged a battle of misinformation against India and it still continues to do so by running anti-India propaganda with the help of the Internet. Kashmir, Muslims, Sikhs, Dalits, Khalistan, minorities, and human rights are such issues on which Pakistan is engaged in generating the anti-India narrative. For this, Pakistan has engaged a number of social media influencers. In this report, DFRAC has provided a detailed analysis of two such influencers who are running a well-planned campaign against India.  We will cover the following points in this report :

  • Broadcasting political protests as anti-India
  • Planned campaign against G20 meeting in Kashmir
  • Comparing the political activities of India with the civil war
  • Fake and misleading news
  • Conclusion

Sehar Shinwari

Sehar Shinwari is a Pakistani actress. She has worked in several Pakistani serials. She has a long-standing association with controversies. She came into the limelight after accusing Rumi, the producer of the channel Pakistan Television Corporation (PTV), of sexual harassment. She had accused Rumi of asking her to sleep with him in exchange for a role in a television show. However,  he declined, which led to her being kicked out of the show. Sehar Shinwari is identified as a supporter of former Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan. She is also recognized for her staunch anti-India stance. She runs an anti-India campaign on a frequent basis. It is evident from Shinwari’s timeline that she has aggravated the issues of Kashmir and Khalistan against India. Along with this,  most of her tweets are anti-India, based on the themes of minority Sikhs, Muslims, and Dalits. She has propagated Pakistan’s anti-India movement while posing herself as an advocate of Human rights.

Conspiracy to Partition of India

Shinwari is an integral part of traditional Pakistan’s fantasy that seeks revenge for the division of India into two halves, similar to what happened to Bangladesh in 1972. Beyond Kashmir and Khalistan, it now desires the fragmentation of India. Sherwani published a list of Indian states in a thread in which several Indian states are referred to as independent nations.

Propaganda against G20 Meeting in Kashmir

After analyzing Shinwari’s tweets related to Kashmir, we discovered that most of the tweets were done in the month of May.  The majority of them were critical of G20 Meeting in Kashmir. After the successful meeting of the G20 in Kashmir, she didn’t tweet further.

Campaign for an Independent Khalistan

Shinwari’s timeline is flooded with tweets related to the call for independent Khalistan in which India was urged to provide the Sikhs their own nation, Khalistan, while reiterating the support of Pakistan. Additionally, Sherwani’s tweet demonstrates Pakistan’s involvement in global pro-Khalistan campaigns. The tweet mentioned opening embassies in Islamabad and a general consulate in Lahore for Khalistan. Along with this, the Indian intelligence agency RAW was accused of assassinating Khalistani leaders in Pakistan.

Muslim and Sikhs were urged to bear 12 children to combat RSS. Moreover, OTT Platform Netflix  was alleged for disseminating anti-Muslim and anti-Kashmiri propaganda by RAW. The International Court was urged to intervene at the same time, citing the issue of waging civil war between Dalits and Muslims, claiming Dalits’ desire for an independent nation from India.

Fact-check

The Dfrac team examined the news associated with President Murmu’s Temple visit to evaluate these viral claims. Meanwhile, President Murumu’ Spokesperson Suraj Kumar Mahato told that Murumu’s discrimination allegations are not true. She always worships idols from a distance.

Ravindra Nath Pradhan, Secretary of Jagannath Temple told: “ People who visit this temple, have to worship lord Jagannath while standing behind the wooden plank. Only Pujaris are allowed near idols. President Murmu was quite aware of this rule. She worshiped idols stood behind barricades”. He added: “These barricades are removed on the occasion of Rath Yatra once a year. A chief guest is also invited on this occasion, who invokes Lord Jagannath while performing some rituals related to Rath yatra. This picture of Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav is also from the year 2021 when he visited the temple as the chief guest on the day of Rath Yatra. This is the reason why he worshiped the idols from the inner part of temple”.

Besides that, some pictures were posted from President Murmu’s official account along with the caption: “On the occasion of the commencement of the Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath, I extend my heartiest congratulations and best wishes to all the countrymen, especially the devotees of Lord Jagannath. I pray to Mahaprabhu Jagannath that this festival of devotion and dedication brings happiness, peace, and prosperity to everyone’s life. Jai Jagannath!”
