2. Fake news spread by South Asian Human Rights Watch on Dalit atrocities
The plight of Dalit communities in India remains a cause for concern, as incidents of caste-based discrimination and violence continue to occur with alarming frequency, according to a video posted by South Asian Human Rights Watch.
Fact-check:
To ascertain the authenticity of the viral video, the DFRAC team first converted the video into several key frames. Then reverse image search them on the internet. During this, we came across a three-year-old report of Dainik Bhaskar newspaper, which was published under the headline, “Man made to drink water and urine in his shoes for having an affair with a married woman in Rajasthan, five arrested”.
It has been told in this report that in Sumerpur of Pali district of Rajasthan, some people abducted a young man from Bharunda village and tied him to a tree overnight at an agricultural well in Suparna (Sardarpura) village near Sirohi. During the fight, the young man was fed urine in a liquor bottle and water in his shoes. They were angry with the accused for having a love affair with a married woman of the same caste. When the victim’s parents reached the spot the next morning, the accused also recovered Rs 5,000 from them as a penalty.
The report further states that the administration swung into action as soon as the video of the incident went viral on social media. Additional Chief Secretary Rajiv Swaroop and Director General of Police Bhupendra Yadav had summoned the report of the incident from the Superintendent of Police, Sirohi.
The incident was also covered by other media houses.
This video had already gone viral in 2020.

At the same time, we also found a tweet of the Rajasthan Police in this regard, according to which – in the video going viral on social media, atrocities have been claimed with Dalits, whereas this claim is completely wrong, because both the parties belong to the same community. This video is of the year 2020, the accused have also been arrested in the case.
Conclusion:
The claim by South Asian Human Rights Watch is false as the video is from the year 2020 and the incident is about two sides of the same community.
