Recently, the alleged murder of 23-year-old Nikki Yadav by her boyfriend has shocked the nation. However, despite clarity in the media about the religious identity of the accused, the hate-mongering trolls have been terming it a case of “Love Jihad”.

According to reports, Yadav was strangled to death by her boyfriend with a data cable on February 9, 2023. After strangling her to death, her boyfriend stuffed her body inside a refrigerator at his dhaba in Southwest Delhi and married another woman the same day, the reports also claim.

Without verifying and going through media reports, a number of social media users resorted to claims of the hateful theory of “Love Jihad”.

By sharing this video, a user captions: “After all, when will this Love Jihad stop, how long will our sisters and daughters continue to fall prey to it!

Sahil cuts Nikki Yadav into pieces and puts her body in the fridge, there should be only one punishment for such people, they should be beaten naked in a public place till they die. “ ( English Translation)

Fact Check:

To know the reality of the viral Love Jihad claims, the DFRAC team searched about the Nikki Yadav murder case and found the report in the Times of India on 15 Feb 2023 with the headline- “ Man kills live-in partner, dumps body in the fridge at Delhi dhaba, gets married the same day.”

The victim, Nikki Yadav, 24, was living with the accused, Sahil Gehlot, at a rented house near Dwarka since the lockdown ended. Sahil allegedly kept his wedding plans a secret, but Nikki learned about it and an argument ensued.

The incident has a disturbing similarity to the Shraddha Walker murder, also in the national capital, in May last year. Shraddha was killed by her live-in partner through strangulation, who then dismembered her body into 35 pieces and stored them in a refrigerator before throwing them in a forest.

Indian Express has also covered this report with the headline “A murder, a plot to hide the body, and a wedding- all in one day”.

Meanwhile, the team searched for the background of Sahil Gehlot and found the wiki bio of Sahil Gahlot.

Sahil Gahlot was born on Monday, 17 March 1997. His age is 26 years as of 2023. He pursued a Diploma in Pharmacy at Galgotia College of Engineering and Technology in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh. Sahil attended Delhi University.

Sahil Gahlot belongs to a Jaat family in Mitraon village of Najafgarh, Delhi.

Conclusion:

It is clear from the fact-check of DFRAC and multiple media reports that the viral claims of Love Jihad are misleading. Sahil Gahlot belongs to a Jaat family in Najafgarh and is not a Muslim.
