Fact Check: Reality of Viral clip of Hardik Patel criticizing his own PM Modi.

DFRAC Editor November 22, 2022
Hardik Patel

These days the political parties are busy with power-packed campaigns for the Gujarat elections. Every day different types of news related to it can be heard. Meanwhile, a clip of BJP leader Hardik Patel is going viral on social media sites in which he is criticizing his own party, BJP. Patel joined Congress in July 2020. However, he eventually joined BJP in June 2022.

Sharing the clip a social media user wrote, “Hardik Patel, came in his colors as soon as he got BJP ticket. He said, sir lies, he makes false promises, I don’t. He put blame on his own party’s head? -English Translation.

Similarly, many other social media users have shared this video with the same caption and trolled Hardik Patel.

Fact Check

Turning the video into different keyframes and applying reverse image search on it, the DFRAC team got a video on the YouTube channel of Samvaad 365. The video was uploaded 3 years ago with the headline “Kaushambi: Congress star campaigner Hardik Patel lashed out at BJP SAMVAAD365.”

At 1:18 mins of the video, we can see the clip that went viral. At that time, he was not a member of the BJP party. He was at the Kaushambi visit as a star campaigner of the Congress Party.

Conclusion

Therefore, from our fact-check, it is clear that social media users are sharing an old video with misleading claims.
