Bihar is in the headlines. It has become a hot topic of discussion on social media sites. Meanwhile, a user named Vijay Kumar Jha has written a post on Facebook, in which he has claimed that Bihar is an Islamic state! Urdu, the state language of Bihar, confirms this! There is no Magadhi in Bihar and there is no Mithila, Maithili.
In this post, the banner of the creative Janmorcha Party can also be seen in the background of the photo.
Fact Check:
According to the Preamble of the Indian Constitution, India is a secular nation. So, there is no question of any state being an Islamic state.
To check the claim that Urdu is the official language of Bihar, we did a simple search on Google with the help of some keywords. During this many reports published by the media were received.
Jagran Josh has published an article under the title, “List of Official Languages mentioned in the Constitution of India”. According to the report, besides Urdu, Maithili and Santhali are also included in the list of Bihar Official Language.
Along with Urdu, Maithili and Santhali are also included in the languages included in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution of India under the Department of Official Languages under the Union Home Ministry.
Conclusion
This fact check of DFRAC makes it clear that not only Urdu, the official language of Bihar, but Maithili and Santhali are also included in this list, hence the claim being made by the users is false and misleading.
