A picture of a tribal woman with India’s first Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru is becoming increasingly viral on social media. The picture was shared with the claim that a tribal woman had inaugurated the Bhabha Atomic Research Center along with Pandit Nehru.
A Twitter user captioned the picture – “Bhabha nuclear plant being inaugurated by a tribal woman”. Apart from this, many other users have also shared this picture with similar claim.
Fact Check
To verify the viral image, we first did a reverse search image of the image.
Meanwhile, we found a viral picture posted on the official Twitter account of Congress on May 1, 2017. The image is captioned- “In 1959 Pandit Nehru asked Budhni Mejhan, a tribal activist, to press the button to inaugurate the Panchet Dam (now in Jharkhand)”.
Apart from this, we also found a report published in The Hindu on June 2012. In which the viral picture was published. Caption of the image- “Switched on, switched off: Budhni inaugurated the power station at Panchet Dam in December 1959. Photo: Nehru Memorial Museum and Library, New Delhi.” has given.
The Bhabha Atomic Research Center (BARC) at Mumbai was established in January 1954 as Homi Jehangir Bhabha Atomic Energy Establishment, Trombay (AEET) for India’s nuclear program. After the death of Shri Bhabha in 1966, AEET was renamed as Bhabha Atomic Research Center (BARC).

It is clear from the fact check of DFRAC that the viral image has been shared with a misleading claim.
