A video showing a woman being pelted with eggs is being circulated as an incident from Uttar Pradesh. Social media users claim that Dalit woman teacher and deputy head Rekha Mallik was attacked with eggs by RSS workers while they chanted “Jai Shri Ram”.
While sharing this video, a user named India With Congress wrote a caption in English, which is: “A Dalit woman teacher and Deputy Head, Mrs Rekha Mallik, was attacked with eggs by Sanghis amid chants of ‘Jai Shri Ram’. This is the reality of the BJP’s ‘zero tolerance’ policy… Yogi Baba, where is the bulldozer now? This is the true face of the BJP. They are anti-women and anti-Dalit.”
A user named Atul Londhe Patil shared the viral video and wrote: “News from Ram Raj, eggs thrown at a Dalit woman teacher while saying Jai Shri Ram….”

The DFRAC team found during its investigation that the viral video is not of an incident involving eggs being thrown at a Dalit woman teacher in Uttar Pradesh. The video is from an incident in Siliguri, West Bengal, where eggs were thrown at Rekha Mallik, the Dalit Deputy Head of Matigara Gram Panchayat-1. Meanwhile, journalist Amarnath Saha of Khabar Aajkal Siliguri, while speaking to DFRAC, denied the viral claim and confirmed that the incident took place in Siliguri.
To investigate the viral video, the DFRAC team first converted the video into key frames and then conducted separate reverse searches of the frames using Google Lens. We found coverage of the incident on Khabar Aajkal Siliguri. The video also contains a statement by Deputy Head Rekha Mallik. Rekha Mallik explains that there was a General Body meeting at the Matigara Gram Panchayat office. During this, some people entered the office and pressured her to resign. When she refused to resign, eggs were thrown at her. Rekha said that ever since these people came to power, she has been pressured to resign forcibly. In the same video, she further says that those who threw eggs at her would not be able to break her morale and that she would continue working for the people. She also identified herself as a follower of Babasaheb Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar.
We also found the same video on the Siliguri Live – শিলিগুড়ি লাইভ Facebook page, where the Bengali caption accompanying the incident reads, in Hindi translation: “Rekha Mallik, Deputy Head of Matigara No. 1 Gram Panchayat, was given ‘egg therapy’.”
For further investigation, we contacted Amarnath Saha, a journalist with Khabar Aajkal Siliguri. Amarnath Saha denied the viral claim and said that the incident took place in Siliguri, West Bengal, where eggs were thrown at Rekha Mallik, Deputy Head of Matigara-1 Gram Panchayat. We also contacted Siliguri Live. A journalist from Siliguri Live also denied the viral claim and confirmed that the incident was not from Uttar Pradesh but from Siliguri, West Bengal.
Conclusion:
DFRAC’s fact check clearly shows that the video shared on social media is not from Uttar Pradesh. The video is from Siliguri, West Bengal, where eggs were thrown at Rekha Mallik, Deputy Head of Matigara Gram Panchayat-1. Therefore, the users’ claim is misleading.
