1) Embroiled in ID scandal: Under Fire for Fake ID and Misused Picture
Our team’s deep analysis observed and investigated over a long period revealed the following:
Ocean Jain’s account initially acted as a promotional page to gain followers. We looked for the initial tweets from the accounts, which mainly seemed to be promotional tweets, acted towards grabbing more followers and promoting other accounts for the same.
At the same time, our investigation revealed that the user used emotional manipulation to gain followers by gaining the sympathy of people
To gain attention and credibility, the account commented on recognized people’s sections, manipulating public perception and amassing a large following under pretenses
- Account as a promotional page
- While digging through the information, we noticed that the user used emotional manipulation to gain followers, thus it has to be mentioned that the user has historically employed emotional manipulation to gain sympathy and attract followers, often portraying themselves as a vulnerable individual, such as a “poor girl” or “village girl”, to evoke emotions and gain support, and using sentimental language and narratives to create a false sense of connection with followers.
Exposure of Deceptive Account Activity
The username “Ocean Jain” was exposed and accused by multiple users such as, “Karishma_aziz97” as a male masquerading as a female, contrary to the account’s purported identity. This revelation occurred in a group voice in Twitter Space, under, “Bishnoi samaj fan Club !”, organized by the user – UMMANG JAIN where the discussion was about BJP and government, Ocean Jain, unmuted themselves to express their opinions. The voice heard was unmistakably male, describing their opinions and views regarding religion and the BJP government, realizing the mistake, prompting a hasty replacement with a female voice was done, in an apparent attempt to maintain the deception. Further investigation suggests that the person operating the account uses this tactic to gain followers and disseminate hateful content while pretending to be a woman.
The same user who exposed Ocean Jain further substantiated this exposure by releasing two videos. The videos reveal a blatant attempt to conceal the account holder’s true identity. A male voice is audible in one video, while a female voice is heard in the other, justifying and assuring people about the actual holder of Ocean Jain’s account. This discrepancy suggests that the account holder, maintaining the charade and avoiding detection, hastily replaced the original male voice with a female voice, further underscoring the extent of their deception.
2) The User’s Targeted Hate
The user in question has been found to consistently target one particular community, especially the Muslim minority. This targeted hate is achieved through the use of masked derogatory language and the creation of misleading narratives.
The user employs a range of derogatory terms, including “Abdul”, “Atangwad”, “Abdul ki behan”, “Musalman”, and “Mulla”. These terms are often used in a masked or veiled manner, attempting to avoid explicit hate speech while still conveying derogatory and discriminatory sentiments.
Categories of Derogatory Content
Our investigation has identified three primary categories of keywords in which the user employs the derogatory term such as,
Abdul:
Women: The user targets women, both Muslim and non-Muslim, by perpetuating the conspiracy theory of “Love Jihad”. This narrative falsely claims that Muslim men are manipulating and coercing non-Muslim women into romantic relationships and conversion to Islam. The user limits women’s agency and capability to reason in matters of love and marriage, portraying them as vulnerable to manipulation by Muslim men.
Community: The user creates and disseminates misleading information, stereotypes, biased views, and opinions to marginalize and target the Muslim community. This perpetuates a negative and discriminatory narrative, fostering hatred and prejudice against Muslims.
Caste-Based Comments: The user attempts to ignite casteism within the Muslim community by making derogatory comments about specific castes. This is done to create divisions and tensions within the community, potentially leading to violence and further marginalization.
Derogatory Use of “Musalman”
The user’s employment of the terms “Musalman” in a derogatory sense is a deliberate attempt to perpetuate a negative and discriminatory narrative against the Muslim community. By using this term, the user subconsciously influences the consumers of their content to develop and construct a prejudiced narrative against Muslims.
Legitimizing Hatred
This subtle yet insidious approach creates a space to legitimize hatred towards Muslims by hinting at the narrative that Muslims are not an integral part of the original Hindu majority. This false and divisive narrative fosters an “us versus them” mentality, further marginalizing and ostracizing the Muslim community.
Consequences of Such Narratives on their Platform
It was detected that the constant use of such narratives has severe consequences on the mass consumers of their tweets, including:
1. Normalization of Hate Speech: The use of derogatory terms and narratives has become increasingly acceptable in the comment section of this user, creating an opportunity to increase hatred, and contributing to a toxic online environment.
2. Radicalization: The subtle yet consistent exposure to prejudiced content on the user’s platform has led to the radicalization of individuals, fostering extremist ideologies.
The user’s derogatory use of “Musalman” is a deliberate attempt to perpetuate a discriminatory narrative against the Muslim community.
