Following the death of Iranian President Raisi, News has recently surfaced on social media site X (formerly Twitter) alleging that two top Indian diplomats, Navendu Shekar and Ateeth Sajvan, linked to the recent crash involving President Ebrahim Raisi, have been detained in Iran.
Sharing a collage on X, a Pak-based handle with the username @PSYWAROPS wrote: “#BREAKINGNEWS: Two #Indian diplomats arrested in Iran Amid President Raisi’s Helicopter crash Investigations. “Reportedly, two top Ind!an diplomats, Navendu Shekar and Ateeth Sajvan, linked to the recent crash involving President Ebrahim Raisi, have been detained in Iran”.
Another user also shared this collage and a made a similar claim.
Fact-Check
To verify the authenticity of the viral news, the DFRAC team conducted a keyword search in this regard and found that no such reports had been published citing the above news. Moreover, we discovered that images of two Indian diplomats were falsely employed with this baseless claim.
For further investigation, we examined the official X handles of Embassy of India in Iranand Iran’s embassy in New Delhi and found that no tweets or updates have been made in the context of above news.
