China’s graveyard of rusted cars is misleading as France’s  Graveyard. Read -Fact check

A  picture is getting viral on social media sites. By sharing this picture social media users are claiming that a graveyard full of rusted cars is in France.

A verified Twitter user named @DavidWolfe shared this picture with the caption- “France: they bought electric cars for civil servants but it was too expensive to replace the batteries. After that, no one else wanted the cars. Now they are here.”

Another user named DL Theune shared a similar picture with the caption- “ Here is an electric car cemetery in France. Nobody wants to buy used electric cars when the battery wears out.

An Instagram user Gregabandoneded a similar picture on Instagram with the caption- “ I don’t want the place to be trashed. I don’t share locations, please respect that.”

Fact Check:

To analyze the originality of viral pictures. The team of DFRAC did a reverse image search on google. The team found many other news houses covering this claim. During this, the team found an article in Global Times. We found similar cars which are shown in the graveyard. The article’s headline is Kandi’s electric cars for rental in Hangzhou, East china’s Zhejiang province picture: Courtesy of Kandi.

Meanwhile, the team also found a caption shared by r/climatedisalarm  regarding  rusted cars in  Hangzhou- “ Look hundred of electric cars Rust away at “shared Graveyard in Hangzhou.”

Conclusion:

It is clear from the verification of DFRAC that the viral picture is not from France’s graveyard but from China Hangzhou. Therefore, the claim made by social media users is Misleading
