Fact Check: The video of a fighter jet being destroyed in a missile accident at a US base is AI-generated

Fact Check Fake Featured

A video is circulating on social media claiming to show a missile accident at an American base. The video depicts soldiers loading a missile onto a fighter jet, when the missile activates, strikes another fighter jet, and destroys it.

Sharing this video, a user wrote, “A small mistake can turn into a huge danger… Caution is the greatest safety, this video teaches exactly that.” (English Translation)

Fact Check:

DFRAC’s investigation found that the viral video is not of a real event but is AI-generated. Upon close inspection, the video initially shows fire emerging from the missile’s warhead (the top section), whereas an active missile releases fire from its rocket engine (propulsion system) at the bottom. Later in the video, the fire suddenly shifts to the engine area. These inconsistencies confirm that the footage is AI-generated.

Further investigation revealed that the viral video carries the watermark ‘MHRX.’ Following this, we searched for ‘MHRX’ on Google and found a Facebook page named ‘MHRX Military.’ We located the viral video on this page, which included a disclaimer stating: ‘This is a fictional cinematic simulation. These are not real events.’

We verified the viral video using AI-detector tools Hive Moderation and detectvideo.ai. Our investigation revealed that the video is AI-generated.

Meanwhile, our team contacted AI expert Mayank Sharma for more information regarding the viral video. After analyzing the video, Mayank told us that it is AI-generated. The missile’s movement in the video is incorrect and goes against the laws of science.

Conclusion:

DFRAC’s fact-check clearly shows that the video shared on social media is not an original video of a US base. This video has been created by AI. Therefore, the users’ claim is fake.
